You will use them from the fairway, rough, & sand and from a number of different yardages. Many times, these shots won’t require full swings, which makes them very challenging.
– To play these shots, take a set-up with your feet about 6 inches apart.
– It helps to position the ball in the middle of your stance. This places the ball about 3 inches inside your left heel. It will appear middle because your feet are much closer together.
– You must always make sure your hands are slightly ahead of the ball at impact. Set them a bit in front of the ball, and always make sure they are there at contact.
– Finally, the length of your swing should match the distance you are looking to hit the shot. Many players take a long swing and slow down into the ball, or take a short backswing and try to “hit” the shot with acceleration.
If you find yourself flat-footed after impact, you’re probably using only your arms to hit the shot and not the motion in a proper golf swing, where your weight is on your left side and your chest is facing the target.
