TURNER – Sam Morency blasted out a grand slam in the third inning to launch Lewiston’s comeback as the Devils rallied for an 8-7 triumph over Leavitt.
Erica Morin belted an RBI double in the seventh to push across the game-winner the Blue Devils (12-3).
Leavitt (4-11) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the second, before Morency’s grand slam. Winning pitcher Danielle Willey helped her own cause by smacking a solo home run in the third inning.
Heidi Swett had two hits, including a double, and recorded two RBIs for the Hornets.
Brunswick 3, Oxford Hills 2
SOUTH PARIS – Cindy Frasier knocked in what would prove to be the eventual game-winning run off a double in the third inning to lead Brunswick to a 3-2 upset victory over Oxford Hills.
Estia Jacobs hit an RBI double in the third for the Dragons (3-12). Jess Russell earned the win.
For the Vikings (9-6), Caitlin Hanley hit a double and a single, and Mindy Rugg chipped in with a pair of singles.
Girls’ lacrosse
Cony 9, Mtn. Valley 7
RUMFORD – Cassie Diplock netted three goals as Cony edged Mountain Valley 9-7 Thursday in girls’ lacrosse action.
Tasha Merrill and Jess Lucas each tallied a pair of goals. Holly Parker and Macy Pagurko rounded out the scoring for the Rams.
The Falcons were paced by Luann Poirier and Tia White with two goals apiece, while Caitlin O’Connell, Brittany Coulombe, and Tanya Lacroix finished off the scoring.
Baseball
Edward Little 12, Morse 0
AUBURN – Matt Gordon and Devin Flynn combined on a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead Edward Little to a 12-0 victory over Morse.
Corey LaRue provided the muscle for EL (9-6) with a three-run home run in the first inning. Gordon had three hits, while LaRue, Flynn, Kyle Bussiere and Eric Prue had two hits apiece. Gordon fanned nine batters in four innings of work to pick up the win.
Mtn. Valley 14, Carrabec 0
NORTH ANSON – Justin Staires smacked two doubles and a single, and recorded five RBIs as Mountain Valley posted a 14-0 victory over Carrabec.
Staires earned the win, but had help from several other pitchers, including Matt Laubauskas, Alex Gagnon, and Jon MacKenzie, who combined for 11 strikeouts to toss the no-hitter. Laubaskas added a double for the Falcons (10-2).
Wells 6, Poland 5
WELLS – Winning pitcher D’Mitri Gatziogannis helped his own cause with a two-run homer in the first inning to set Wells up for a 6-5 triumph over Poland.
Hunter Spearin smacked a bases-clearing triple, while Josh Mayo homered in the second for the Warriors (7-8).
Mike Littlefield hit a double and single, and recorded an RBI for the Knights (9-5). Ben Piper and Matt Brewster hit doubles, while Casey Ray had three hits.
Brunswick 4, Oxford Hills 3
SOUTH PARIS – Brunswick scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to came back from a three-run deficit and record a 4-3 victory over Oxford Hills.
Jon Simmons’ RBI double got things started. Brunswick (10-5) then scored two runs on an error to tie the game. Jack Faherty brought home the game-winner on a sacrifice fly.
For the Vikings (7-8), Ryan Yates and Matt Verrier had back-to-back RBI triples in the third inning.
