LEWISTON – Bates College banged out 36 hits and scored 36 runs in two games as it topped Emerson 17-2 and 19-1 in a baseball doubleheader.

Brian Mahoney went 4 for 5 and drove in six runs in the first game, including a three-run homer for Bates. Custer Cook earned the win, allowing two Emerson hits, while striking out three.

Jake Simon smacked a grand slam in the second inning of the nightcap. Tom Beaton went 4 for 4 with four runs.

Fisher blanks UMF

FARMINGTON – Fisher College shut out the University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader, 10-0 and 4-0.

In the opener, Evan Tardugno tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out eight batters. Pat Howell took the loss for Beavers. Phineas Peake, Corey Provencher, and Tyler Hanson had UMF’s hits.

UMF sweeps Fisher

WATERVILLE – Maine-Farmington swept a doubleheader from Fisher, 19-1 and 15-6.

Jessica Timmreck notched a pair of complete game victories in the doubleheader. McKell Barnes slammed a double, home run, and had four RBIs in the opener. Lauren Overlock chipped in with a single, a double, and three RBIs.

In the second contest, Barnes singled, doubled, and knocked in three runs, while Kasey McPhail clubbed a two-run triple.

Bowdoin 7, Bates 3

BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College rapped out 13 hits en route to a 7-3 victory over Bates Monday.

Jean McIntyre led the Bobcats (5-17) with three hits, while Stacia Saniuk homered.
