DIXFIELD – Tom Knight recorded a double-double, including a game high 25 points, and the rest of the Cougars followed suit Dirigo ran to a convincing 75-24 win over Livermore Falls at Defoe Gymnasium.

Dirigo (10-1) didn’t leave any thing to the imagination, scoring the first 26 points of the first quarter. Wes Gagnon (13 points, 4 assists) and Adam Law (9 points) each drained three pointers, and Knight blocked four shots before the Andies could react.

The Cougars had defeated the Andies last month.

“I felt that we came out of the gate really well,” Dirigo coach Gavin Kane said. “We hadn’t looked well in practice and we needed to get on some guys, but tonight they showed some intensity, and that’s what this team needs.”

The Cougars immediately opened-up their attack with Knight hitting from outside against the Andies’ zone. The junior center also plucked 10 rebounds, had four assists and earned four steals. Colby Knapp added 12 points.

The Cougars were relentless on the boards and proved equally effective passing.

“We passed the ball well tonight,” Knight said. “We distributed the ball well, spread the court and found the open man.”

The Andies (5-7) were coming off a loss and hoped to get back on track. Keene scored their first basket with 1:41 left in the first quarter, but he was held to just six points thanks to a strong defensive effort from Enrico Ross.

Livermore Falls shot 21 percent (8-for-24) from the floor. Tom Ventrella added six and Jake Marceau added five.

“We wanted to come out and play hard,” Gagnon said. “Once you get on a roll it is difficult to stop. It feels good and you want to keep the tempo up, because you know you are succeeding.”

Dirigo shot 54 percent from the floor and turned the ball over just 11 times in the game.

The Cougars have made 14 treys in the last two games.
