AUBURN – The first goal broke their momentum. The second broke their spirit, and the third Bangor goal sent Edward Little over the edge.
After giving up an early score to the Eddies, the Rams rattled off seven unanswered goals and skated away from Ingersoll Arena on Saturday with a 7-1 win over Edward Little.
“We started off all right, despite having a lot of penalties against us in the first period,” EL coach Craig Latuscha said.
Bangor, meanwhile, used the Eddies’ goal, a Michael St. Denis breakaway tally, as motivation.
St. Denis’ goal came at 6:05 of the opening period. Bangor knotted the game at one at 8:58 on David Pardilla’s first of two on the night, and potted a backbreaking goal with one second to play in the first.
“Any goal like that, in the last minute of a period, that kills you,” Latuscha said.
Bangor netminder Andrew Riley came up big early in the second to keep the Rams (2-1) ahead.
Nick George then slid one home underneath EL goaltender Adam Loudermilk.
“Eventually they scored another one, we let down and we got frustrated,” Latuscha said. “We played undisciplined, and when you play undisciplined, you lose hockey games.”
“After we got about six goals, they were just chipping,” Pardilla said. “We kept our heads in the play and didn’t give up.”
Bangor ran the score to 5-1 by the end of the second period on Pardilla’s second and on a shorthanded breakaway by Christian Dionne.
“We have speed,” Bangor coach Ted Taylor said. “We use that to go to the outside and use that speed, and that’s how we outwork teams.”
The Rams tacked on two more in a 22-shot effort in the third period. Loudermilk finished with 47 saves on 54 shots against for Edward Little.
“We knew we had to shoot more,” George said. “We’ve had to shoot more in every game.”
“Our goal is to get 10 shots in each period,” Pardilla added. “I guess we got a bit more than that (Saturday).”
