AUBURN – Dave LaBonte and Cam Angell helped Central Maine Community College jump out to a quick lead in the third overtime that Massasoit could not erase in a 112-108 men’s basketball victory.

Tyler Smithgell was a force in the paint for CMCC (8-7) with 27 points and 27 rebounds. LaBonte added 23 points, while Angell had 15, Steve Cyr 12 and Nate Damm 11.

Massasoit, behind Jared Callahan’s 36 points and 10 3-pointers, rallied back in each of the first two overtimes.

Mount St. Mary’s 66, Maine 59

ORONO – Jerry Goode’s jumper three seconds before the half gave Mount St. Mary’s the lead and it went on to a 66-59 victory over Maine on Saturday.

Goode’s basket made it 24-23 at intermission, and Mount St. Mary’s increased the lead to as much as 49-35 and 53-39 before the Black Bears pulled within the final score with two baskets in the last 16 seconds.

Goode led Mount St. Mary’s (5-4) with 17 points and Chris Vann had 16. Junior Bernal had 17 for Maine (4-6).

Women’s basketball

Salem State 74, USM 58

SALEM, Mass. – Sophomore center Danielle Jenkins notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Salem State to a 74-58 victory over the University of Southern Maine, handing the nationally-ranked Huskies their first loss.

Jenkins led three Vikings (7-1) in double-figures. Junior guard Stacey Kent led the Huskies (8-1) with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Nicole Paradis and sophomore forward Becky Dixon each chipped in with nine pionts, while Dixon added a team-high eight rebounds.
