HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. – Farmington native Kevin Eastler set a new course record in the 20-kilometer racewalk to win the USA Team Trials for the World Racewalk Cup on Sunday.
Eastler, a captain in the Air Force, finished in a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes, 15 seconds, smashing the mark set last year by Tim Seaman by 3:17.
Eastler, who earlier this year broke the American record in the 30K, was a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, finishing 21st in the 20K walk in Athens.
John Nunn trailed Eastler by 15 seconds at the tape, while Seaman placed third in 1:27:26.
Maine’s Ben Shorey, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, was fifth in 1:32:17 to earn the final spot on the five-man team that will compete at the World Cup in Coruna, Spain, on May 13-14.
