Editor’s note: The story on the swimming state championships in Wednesday’s paper contained results from the preliminary round instead of the finals.

Emily Lewandowski captured the gold medal in the 500 -yard freestyle Tuesday to lead the St. Dom’s girls’ swim team to a seventh-place finish at the Class B state championships at Bowdoin College.

The Saints’ small squad, which practices with Hebron Academy while awaiting school approval for varsity status, beat several well-established programs, scoring 106 points in the 21-school meet.

The St. Dom’s junior also finished second in the 200 individual medley and swam a leg on two scoring relay teams.

Lewandowski rallied to edge Kristin Desroisers of McAuley in the 500 freestyle.

Desroisers led from the start and held a lead of more than a second after 400 yards. The St. Dom’s swimmer closed the gap quickly and took the lead in the final stretch to finish with a time of 5 minutes, 24.78 seconds. Desroisers touched at 5:25.25.

Falmouth’s Gina Mancini outdistanced the field to win the 200 IM in 2:10.48, with Lewandowski in second at 2:12.99, nearly four seconds better than third place.

She also joined teammates Erin Feely, Maria Saucier and Shannon Timoney for fifth place in the 200-medley relay and ninth in the 400-freestyle relay.

Saucier chipped in with a fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:04.26) and ninth in the 200 IM (2:24.53)

Falmouth won the girls’ Class B title, edging Greely 391-380. Mt. Desert was third followed by McAuley, Waterville, Old Town and St. Dom’s.
