Frustrated may best explain the Lewiston Maineiacs’ demeanor following Friday night’s game in Bathurst, New Brunswick.

With the score knotted at two in the third period, Lewiston netminder Jonathan Bernier gave away the puck , leading to a Mathieu Roy goal, and despite a 5-on-3 advantage later in the period, the Maineiacs never recovered. Roy potted an empty-net goal to cap the scoring late in the third to lead the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to a 4-2 win over the Maineiacs at the K.C. Irving Centre.

“We played a great game,” said Maineiacs coach Clem Jodoin, “but we gave them, gave them four goals. We played better than them. Sometimes there are two separate parts of the game, the performance and the result. Tonight, we played better, but still lost the game.”

Following the game, according to Jodoin, Bernier continued to walk with his head down.

“He knows,” said Jodoin, “but now we have to put this behind us. Good teams bounce back, and I think we are a good team. we have to go (tonight) and show we are ready to play.”

Mathieu Aubin scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season and garnered an assist on an Eric Castonguay power play goal in the second period that briefly gave the visiting team the lead, 2-1.

Olivier Labelle and Mathieu Carle also scored for Bathurst

Travis Fullerton is expected to start in net for Lewiston tonight in the rematch, a game Jodoin feels the team can win.

“They didn’t dominate us,” said Jodoin. “We were there. They are a very good team, and we are, too. We just have to put everything together at the same time.”
