BETHEL – Jesse Farrington struck out eight batters and went 5-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs to pace Telstar to a 15-4 victory over Madison in the Western Class C quarterfinals.

Jillian Kimball added three hits and two RBIs for the Rebels (13-2), while Kayla Mills tallied three hits and scored twice.

Sarah Smith handled pitching duties for the Bulldogs (13-5) in the loss.

Rangeley 21, Forest Hills 1

RANGELEY – Ashley Quimby had five hits, including a grand slam that highlighted a 12-run explosion in the fourth inning to lead Rangeley to a 21-1 triumph over Forest Hills.

In three innings, Kate Jamison struck out seven and allowed one hit. Jamison also contributed at the plate with three hits, including a solo homer that followed Quimby’s shot in the fourth. Justin Frost-Klova had four hits, while Emily George joined Jamison with three hits for the Lakers (12-4).

Lisa Brown had the lone extra-base hit for the Tigers.

Cape Elizabeth 5, Poland 1

CAPE ELIZABETH – Rachel Budkowitz belted a two-run double in the fourth inning to lift Cape Elizabeth to a 5-1 victory over Poland in a Western Class B quarterfinals.

Brennan Balfour added a double for the Capers (13-4). Jackie Moran scattered four hits for the mound win.

Katie Simpson led the Knights (11-6) with a triple, while Kelly O’Connor suffered the loss.

Baseball
Telstar 2, OOB 0

BETHEL – Terry Collins threw a one-hitter as Telstar came away with a 2-0 victory over Old Orchard Beach in Western Class C quarterfinals.

Collins struck out 17 batters in seven innings, including 10 of the last 13 he faced.

August Reiss broke things open for the Rebels (11-4) with an home run in the sixth inning, while Josh Longway tallied two hits.

Brian Robillard led Old Orchard (11-5) with a double.

Jay 6, Winthrop 4

WINTHROP – Steve Nelson scattered six hits and received strong support at the plate as Jay edged Winthrop 6-4 in the Western Class C baseball quarterfinals.

Nelson also led the Tigers (11-7) with three hits and one RBI, while Ryan Bourassa and Jamison Turner tallied two hits apiece.

Cory Gillespie, Jason Allen and Chip Burnham split time on the mound for the Ramblers (10-6). Jay stepped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and never trailed.
