AUBURN – Brent Cary struck out 14 batters as St. Dom’s cruised to a 6-1 win over Buckfield in baseball action on Friday.
Jon Emerson followed a pair of walks and a balk with a single in the first inning to plate two runs for all the offense the Saints (5-0) would need. Cary, who also had a double to help his effort, was relieved by Brady Blackman in the seventh inning. Blackman recorded two strikeouts.
The Bucks (4-2) scored their lone run in the second inning on a single, a stolen base and a couple of wild pitches.
Waterville 8, Leavitt 0
TURNER – Nick Stone threw a complete-game shutout, allowed only three hits and had eight strikeouts to lead Waterville to an 8-0 victory over Leavitt in baseball action on Friday.
Waterville scored five in the third highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of John Hart that scored Stone and Joel Allen. Stone also hit a two-run double in the first for the Panthers (5-3). Sean Doyle had two hits for Leavitt (2-6).
Gardiner 1, EL 0
GARDINER – Kyle Stilphsen raced home from second base on a bloop single to left field by Sean McNally in the bottom of the fourth inning, lifting Gardiner to a 1-0 win over Edward Little in KVAC baseball play.
Stephen Black went the distance, allowing a pair of singles in the complete game shutout for the Tigers (6-2).
Chris Merrill took the loss despite striking out five and allowing a single walk in a complete game effort.
Mt. Abram 5, Dirigo 2
SALEM – Sam Witherspoon scored the eventual game-winner on an error as Mt. Abram recorded a 5-2 win over Dirigo in MVC baseball action on Friday.
The Roadrunners (3-3) were tied up 2-2 in the third when Aaron Adams, who had three hits in the game, singled to lead off the inning. After a walk to place two runners on the pads, Witherspoon struck out on a wild pitch and advanced to an empty first base as the lead runners scored. Witherspoon later scored on an error.
The Cougars (3-4) scored their two runs in the first inning on three consecutive walks and a two-run single by Dave Merrill.
Poland 6, G-NG 4
POLAND – Max Levine had a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning to lift Poland to a 6-4 win over Gray-New Gloucester in WMC baseball action on Friday.
The Knights (6-1) and Patriots (1-5) matched each other in the first and third innings with single runs for a 2-2 score heading into the fourth frame.
Patriots’ pitcher Ryan Welch walked three batters before Jeremy Callahan singled in one run and Levine cemented the win with a two-run shot.
Oxford Hills 11, Messalonskee 0
OAKLAND – Kyle Keniston raced home as Kelvin DeCato (three hits) drilled a single to left field in the top of the first inning for the only run needed as the Vikings cruised to an 11-0 win over Messalonskee in KVAC baseball action.
The Vikings’ (7-1) Corey Saunders went the distance, striking out four and walking one to earn the shutout. Chris Jennings and Keniston also chipped in with a pair of singles in the lopsided win.
R.J. Moore took the loss for the Eagles (2-5), going four innings before giving way to Josh Brooks and Jeff McMullin in the fifth inning.
Mt. Blue 4, Morse 3
BATH – Mike Cayer singled in Luke Lambert in the top of the seventh for the game-winning run as Mt. Blue defeated Morse 4-3 in baseball action on Friday. Will Undercuffler belted a two-run double in the top of the fifth that scored Cayer and John Mallony to tie the game at 3.
Morse scored all of their runs in the third. Greg Herrikson had an RBI single and Kevin Hutchinson hit a sacrifice fly.
Lewiston 2, Lawrence 1
FAIRFIELD – Luke Potter went the distance, giving up just three hits and one earned run while striking out four, to lead Lewiston to a 2-1 victory against Lawrence in baseball action on Friday.
Potter only faced three batters in each of the last four innings. Lewiston’s Chad Guimond had two hits and scored a run.
Craig Nadeau hit an RBI double in the first that scored Rick Flynn for Lawrence’s only run.
Winthrop 14, Telstar 13
WINTHROP – David Ricker hit a single in the bottom of the 10th that scored Tavis Hasenfus for the game-winning run as Winthrop defeated Telstar 14-13 in a baseball slugfest on Friday.
Jason Allen had three hits, including a triple for Winthrop (5-1). August Reiss smacked a three-run homer in the seventh and finished with five RBIs for Telstar (3-3). Terry Collins hit an RBI single in the top of the 10th to put Telstar ahead 13-12 at that point.
Oak Hill 7, Camden 0
WALES – Brian Bisson tossed a complete game three-hitter, striking out six and walking two for Oak Hill as the Raiders downed Camden Hills 7-0 in a KVAC baseball action Friday.
Bisson helped himself out with two hits as the Raiders jumped on Windjammer pitching early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Oak Hill took advantage of four walks by Camden hurler Sam Holbrock in the first frame and capped off the scoring with a two-out Devon Eaton RBI single. Wally Rines had the only extra base hit on the day, a double for the Raiders. The win improves Oak Hills’ record to 2-4 on the young season, while Camden falls to 3-4.
Lacrosse
Lewiston 15, Cony 2
AUGUSTA – Zach Sheltra scored five goals to lead Lewiston to a 15-2 victory over Cony in boys’ lacrosse action on Friday.
Jon Fournier netted four for the Blue Devils (4-1). Cony’s only goals came from Chris Gay and Adam Moreau
Oak Hill 12, Wiscasset 4
WISCASSET – Casey Behne recorded five goals as Oak Hill routed Wiscasset 12-4 in lacrosse action on Friday.
The Raiders (2-3) took control of the field offensively from the start, and did not let go throughout as Brad Krook also notched a hat trick. Oak Hill led 8-2 at the half.
Chris Fairfield scored two of the Redskins’ (0-5) four goals.
