GORHAM – Junior right-hander Tip Fairchild of the University of Southern Maine b aseball team has been named the ECAC Division III New England Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 11-17.

The announcement was made Tuesday by the ECAC.

Fairchild, of Monmouth, pitched a spectacular 8-0 complete-game shutout in the Huskies’ win over 13th-ranked Eastern Connecticut in his only appearance on the mound during the week. Over nine innings, Fairchild scattered six singles while striking out nine and walking just two batters.

The win improved Fairchild’s 2005 record to 4-1 with a 1.80 earned-run average. Fairchild also contributed offensively for the Huskies, going 11-for-25 (.440) at the plate with eight runs scored, seven RBIs and two home runs. Fairchild is currently batting .347 for the Huskies with 15 RBIs and three home runs.
