AUBURN – Troy Barnies (17 points, 12 rebounds) sank the first of two foul shots with 14 seconds left in regulation to propel Edward Little to a 68-67 win over Nokomis in KVAC basketball action Friday.
The Red Eddies (1-0) took a 45-32 lead into the intermission and then held on to register their first win in the season opener for both teams.
Darin Meyers and Derek Doucette chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively in the win.
The Warriors (0-1) were led by Tyler Morriss who drained a game-high 25 points.
St. Dom’s 48, OOB 45
OLD ORCHARD – Justin Richardson poured in 15 points including four from beyond the tree point arc and Justin Fongemie added 15 points to lead St. Dom’s to a 48-45 win over Old Orchard Beach in WMC basketball play.
The Saints (1-1) trailed by five points going into the fourth quarter but utilized a 19-12 run to pull out the win. Billy Colasante chipped in with 10 points in the win.
The Sea Gulls (0-1) were paced by Roy Letellier and Aaron Fleury with 16 and 10 points respectively.
Camden Hills 70, Oak Hill 27
CAMDEN – Noah Buck and Nick Tedford drained 11 points apiece to lead Camden Hills to a 70-27 victory over Oak Hill.
Will Horn also chipped-in with 10 for the Windjammers (3-0).
Lee Reynolds scored a game-high 12 points for Oak Hill (0-3).
Buckfield 64, Vinalhaven 18
VINALHAVEN – Jarod Martin tallied a game-high 15 points to propel Buckfield to a 64-18 win against Vinalhaven. Jamie Henderson chipped-in with 12 points and Justin Dodge scored 11 for the Bucks (2-1).
Randy Pitts was the high scorer for Vinalhaven (0-3) with seven points. Buckfield held Vinalhaven to just four points at halftime.
Leavitt 74, Mt. Ararat 53
TURNER – John Pirraccello scored 16 points and had six rebounds to carry Leavitt to a 74-53 victory over Mt. Ararat. Can Angell and Brandon Powell netted 14 points apeice for the Hornets (1-0).
Seth Fournier tallied a game-high 18 points for Mt. Ararat (0-1) and Aaron Leaver added 10 points and two 3-pointers.
Hockey
Lewiston 2, Brunswick 0
AUBURN – Senior center Adam Wilding scored the only goal Lewiston needed as the Blue Devils downed Brunswick 2-0 in the Gippers Hockey Classic Friday evening.
Senior left wing Joe Gauthier found the back of the net for an insurance goal only 16 seconds into the final frame for the Blue Devils.
Goalie Chris Billett had 26 saves for the Dragons, while Brian
Nason stopped all 20 shots to earn the shutout for Lewiston, which plays in the championship game tonight.
