WALDOBORO – Kelvin DeCato had three hits as Oxford Hills exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning en route to an 18-0 shelling of Medomak Valley in baseball action Friday afternoon.
The Vikings (2-0) tallied three runs in the first and two more in the third, before leveling a brutal fourth inning. Joe Baker led off with a single and relief pitcher Sam Adolphson walked the next three batters to set the stage for Brad Flanders to single home a pair of runs.
Matt McDonnell pitched superbly for the Vikings, giving up only one hit to Nate Ayotte in the fourth inning.
Mtn. Valley 4, Hall-Dale 0
FARMINGDALE – Tim Turner’s RBI single snapped a scoreless deadlock and paved the way for a four-run outburst in the ninth inning to boost Mountain Valley to a 4-0 triumph over Hall-Dale in the season opener for both clubs.
Pitchers Richie Ross, Corey Stairs and Marcus Palmer combined for nine strikeouts for the Falcons (1-0).
Dave Henderson and Sam Shain were on the mound for the Bulldogs (0-1), combining for three strikeouts.
Poland 11, Lake Region 1
NAPLES – Max Levine and Jerry Goss drove in two runs apiece during a five-run uprising in the fifth inning to power Poland to a 11-1 victory over Lake Region.
Levine, who also tossed a two-hitter for the victory, had a pair of hits, including a two-run double in the fifth. Alex Smith chipped in with a triple.
Nick Mullin took the loss for the Lakers (0-3).
Gardiner 9, Lewiston 0
GARDINER- Stephen Black blasted a sole home run in the fifth inning to lift Gardiner to their 9-0 shutout over Lewiston Friday afternoon.
Mike Burden struck out six in four innings and surrendered one hit for the Tigers (2-1).
Luke Potter and Brian Blais shared the mound for the Devils (1-1).
