Annie Whitting punches in 14 points for the Bobcats.

LEWISTON – Annie Whitting scored 14 points to lead Bates College to a 94-33 win over Emerson College in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Olivia Zurek and Laura Knafe chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively as the Bobcats (8-4) cruised to a lopsided win.

The Lions (1-6) were led by Molly O’Keefe and Samantha Shirley who scored 11 and 10 points respectively.

Bowdoin 65, Emmanuel 61

BRUNSWICK – Bowdoin College used a 10-6 run in overtime to hand Emmanuel College a 65-61 win in women’s basketball action Saturday.

Erika Nickerson scored a team-high 15 points while Eileen Flaherty chipped in with 14. Justine Pouravelis added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Polar Bears (10-0) in the hard fought win.

The Saints (7-3) were led by LaTeisha Johnson with a game-high 24 points.

USM 68, Keene State 43

KEENE, N.H.- Senior forward Jen Webster tallied a game-high 20 points and added nine rebounds to lead three Huskies in double figures, and the University of Southern Maine limited the Keene State College Owls to 12 second half-points en route to a 68-43 Little East Conference win Saturday.

After entering the break with a narrow 34-31 advantage, USM opened the second half with a 13-5 run, capped by a free throw from sophomore Tiffany Jones.

Sophomore Cowing hit a layup and foul shot to culminate a 12-2 run and gave the Huskies a commanding 59-40 advantage.

Colby 79, Rivier College 41

NASHUA, N.H. – Bill Blanchard and Wendy Bonner scored 14 and 13 points respectivley to lead Colby College to a 79-41 win over Rivier College in a non-conference basketball game Saturday.

The White Mules (6-6) built a 31-13 lead heading into the intermission and never looked back as they cruised to the victory. Tracy Nale and Laura Williamson chipped in with 11 points apiece in the win.

Rivier was led by Kelly Gardner with a game-high 17 points.

St. Joe’s 64, College Misericordia 45

STANDISH – Morgan Brownlee poured in a game-high 17 points and hauled down five rebounds to lead St. Joseph’s College to a 64-45 win over the College Misericordia.

Laura Pelky and Abbie Rice added 13 and 11 points respectivley.

Colleen Corrigan led Misericordia with 12 points.

Thomas 82, Becker 33

WATERVILLE – Malorie LeClerc drained 20 points and Tammy Fowler added 19 as Thomas College overpowered Becker College 82-33 in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers (3-8) built a commanding 43-18 lead in the first half as Shauna Lessard chipped in with 18 points to compliment LeClerc’s and Fowler’s efforts.

Becker was led by Jocelyn McNair with a team-high 14 points.

Husson 65, Caselton State 49

BANGOR – Annie McIntosh poured in a team-high 15 points and Crystal Martin added 12 to lead Husson College to a 65-49 win over Caselton Sate in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Braves (7-2) took an eight-point lead into the end of the first half and never looked back.

The Spartans (2-6) were paced by Casey Wedge with a game-high 16 points.

Women’s hockey

Amherst 3, Colby 2

WATERVILLE – Sophomore forward Renee Sisti scored with 2:10 left in regulation to Lift Amherst College to a 3-2 win over Colby College in women’s hockey at Alfond Arena Saturday afternoon.

Sisti found the back of the net, converting a feed from Meghan Dickoff and Tes Siarnacki with the game-winner at 17:50.

The White Mules fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game when Heather DeVito scored with 7:27 in the third period.

Michele Barmash and DeVito accounted for the Colby goals.

Men’s basketball

Bates 77, Colby 59

LEWISTON – Brian Gerrity poured in 22 points, including six 3-pointers to lead Bates College to a 77-59 win over Colby College at Alumni Gymnasium Saturday.

The Bobcats broke out to an early lead using a 21-0 run in less than four minutes.

Jon Furbush added 17 points while Rob Stockwell chipped in with 14 in the win.

The White Mules were led by Andrew Jenkins with 17 points while Michael Westbrooks and Matt Forlizzi chipped in with 14 and 10 respectively.

UMF 90, Elms 80

FARMINGTON – Travis Magnusson tickled the twine for a game-high 23 points and Bobby Deetjen chipped in with 18 as the University of Maine at Farmington handed Elms College an 90-80 setback in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers (4-5) held a 45-32 lead at the end of the first half and held on in the second half to secure the win as Steve Ginn and Luke Neilson added 17 and 12 points.

Elms was paced by John Ancrum with a team-high 22 points.

Babson 98, Bowdoin 80

WELLESELY, Mass. – Phil Riffe poured in 28 points, including a school record eight 3-pointers as Babson College handed Bowdoin a 98-80 setback in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Jeff Nicholson added 22 points while Luke Webber and Jeff Hines chipped in with 12 points apiece in the victory.

The Polar Bears (6-5) were led by Mark Yankovonis with 22 points and T. J. McLeod who added 19.

Husson 91, Caselton State 80

BANGOR – Dwayne Ailey poured in 25 points and Buddy Leavitt added 21 to lead Husson College to a 91-80 win over Caselton State in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Braves (5-5) held a slim five-point lead at the end of the first half and held on as Bill Beauregard and Tyler Muzzy chipped in with 14 and 10 points respectivley.

The Spartans were led by Dan Bevis with 25 points and Sean Manovill who added 18.

Keene State 79, USM 63

KEENE, N.H. – Senior Matt Wheeler paced four Keene State players in double figures, scoring 12 points to lead the Owls to a 79-63 win over the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference basketball action Saturday.

The Owls used a 10-0 run ignited by Harley Davis (10 points) who drained a 3-pointer with seconds left to take the lead at the intermission.

The Huskies (5-8) were paced by Mike Francouer with a game-high 17 points while Jason Levesque and Caleb Sayward chipped in with 14 and 11 points respectively

Nichols 83, UNE 69

BIDDEFORD – Mike Dyer poured in 22 points and Ryan Moszynski added 17 to lead Nichols College to an 83-69 win over the University of New England in men’s basketball action Saturday evening.

The Bison (8-2) held a 40-33 lead at the end of the first half and never looked back as they cruised to victory. Matt Trumbley and Casey Butler added 11 points each to round out the scoring.

The Nor’easters (2-8) were led by Matt McManus with a team-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Mark Regis and Nick Farynaz added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Men’s hockey

Babson 6, Colby 2

WELLESLEY Mass. – Babson recieved two goals from Kyle Sibley on its way to a 6-2 victory over Colby College in a Mens’ ice hockey match up on Saturday.

Kevin Lyons scored the first goal for Colby on a pass from Nick Bayley. The second goal for Colby was scored by Judd Moldaver assisted by Kevin Lyons and Nick Bayley. Babson also recieved goals from Ryan Farrel, Derek Nisula, Johnny Kim and Eric Tkacz.
