RUMFORD – Chelsey Dionne and Caitlyn Laflin combined for 27 points as Hall-Dale remained unbeaten with a 44-29 win against Mountain Valley Friday night.

Laflin broke a tie with three minutes to go and the Bulldogs (9-0) scored the final 15 points of the game.

“I think we tired them out,” Hall-Dale coach Sam Hayes said. “That was a big difference because once Mountain Valley got in to foul trouble, we were able to go inside with our game.”

Mountain Valley (4-4) received a solid game from Kristen Arsenault, who scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds. The Falcons hurt themselves by shooting 33 percent and committing 33 turnovers in the game.

The Falcons had tied the score at 29 on a free throw by Cerese Richardson. After a Laflin (13 points, nine rebounds) basket, on the ensuing possession Kathryn Frett stole the ball and scored a lay-up.

Mountain Valley had been effective with guards Devon Allen (5 points) and Tanya Nicols constantly disrupting the Bulldog passes earlier in the game.

“We played tough defense, but didn’t sustain in the second half,” Mountain Valley coach Greg Parr said. “We were playing without two starters and I think if we had a healthy line-up it would have been a different story. Still, we battled with an unbeaten team and it would have been nice to come away with their Heal Points.”

Dionne scored 15 points and Hall-Dale shot 47 percent in the second half.

The Falcons had taken a lead in the third quarter, behind Arsenault an strong rebounding by Richardson (13).

“Cerese Richardson had a monstrous game,” Parr said. “She has really stepped up her game and we see it every day in practice. We’ll need with because Jennifer Hamann is out with a stress fracture.”
