GORHAM – Dirigo High graduate Darci Holland scored the lone goal of the game with 10 seconds remaning in regulation Wednesday to lift the University of Southern Maine to a 1-0 field hockey win over Colby.

Renee Heath collected a penalty corner feed at the top of the circle and threaded a short pass to Holland, who unleashed a shot inside the near post to give the Huskies (9-5) the victory.

Jessie Superchi finished the contest with 11 saves for the shutout.

Molly Rice turned aside seven shots for Colby (7-4).

Men’s soccer

Northeastern 3, Maine 1

BROOKLINE, MA – Atha Kirkopoulos netted a penalty kick early in the first half of the contest as Northeastern slipped past Maine 3-1 in an America East clash.

Daniel Ivec converted a pass from Michael Cipriano to score for the Huskies (6-5-3, 3-2-1), and Aaron Birnbaum also scored off a pass from Kirkopoulos.

Gabriel Germano scored an unassisted goal for the Black Bears (5-7-1, 1-3).

Bowdoin 2, USM 0

BRUNSWICK – Andrew Russo tallied two goals to lead Bowdoin to a 2-0 win over Southern Maine.

Simon Parsons settled a ball on the wing and played a high cross into the box, where Russo collected and netted it. Russo booted home the clincher on a feed from Danny Sullivan.

Lucas Bare and Travis Derr combined for one save for the shutout. Kane DiBenedetto made 12 saves for USM.
