ORONO- Traci Rainone and Emily Dooling each scored a pair of goals to power the University of Maine to a 4-1 win over Siena College in field hockey action Sunday.
Dooling put the Black Bears on the scoreboard three minutes into the game when she deflected a shot from a Rachel Hilgars shot on a penalty corner. Siena responded with its lone goal as Ashley Smaldon jammed a shot past the Bears keeper.
Bentley 1, USM 0
WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshaman forward Kristen Allen kicked in the game-winning goal in the first half, lifting Bentley College to a 1-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in field hockey action Sunday afternoon.
Husson 3, St. Joseph’s 2
BANGOR – Sara McIntyre scored the game-winning goal with 32 seconds remaining in regulation to lift Husson College to a 3-2 win over St. Joseph’s College in field hockey action Sunday.
The Monks held a 2-1 edge with four minutes left to play, but the Braves broke out with goals by Amanda Brown and McIntyre.
Men’s soccer
Trinity 2, Bates 1
LEWISTON – Tim Cross scored on a shot off the crossbar five minutes into overtime to lift Trinity College to a 2-1 win over Bates College in men’s soccer Sunday afternoon.
Cross received the ball on a pass from Jared Rubin. He sent the shot from inside the penalty area toward the top left corner of the Bobcat net where the ball struck the crossbar and snuck past the Bates keeper for the game-winner.
Bates forced the overtime period when Ithal Schori scored with 3:50 remaining in regulation. He took advantage of the Trinity keepers’ ballhandling mistake and drove the ball into the open net.
Union 2, USM 0
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Todd VanDeHey and Kevin Dolan each scored a first-half goal to lead Union College to a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine in men’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.
Van DeHey drilled the only goal the Dutchmen would need at 3:56 of the first half on an unassisted goal. Dolan added the insurance goal on a feed from David Papa and beat the Huskies keeper with 2:18 left in the half.

St. Bonaventure 1
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Luke Rivard scored the game-wining goal in the second overtime as the University of Maine men’s soccer team defeated St Bonaventure 2-1 Sunday.
Jahmal Cameron opened the scoring for the Bonnies (0-3) in the first half, but Ben Wilcox answered for the Black Bears (2-2) on a scramble in front of the net.
Rivard notched the game-winner when he took a corner kick from Chad Arsenault and blasted a close-range shot at the Bonnies keeper who actually blocked the shot. But he was behind the goal line giving the Bears the win.
Bowdoin 2, Wheaton 1
BRUNSWICK – Tucker Hodgkins found the back of the net just 1:03 into overtime to give Bowdoin College a 2-1 win over Wheaton College in men’s soccer Sunday afternoon.
The Lyons (2-1-0) took the early lead as they tallied the game’s first score on a goal by Barry Finnerty at 16:44 of the first half.
The Polar Bears (1-0-0) tied the score in the second half as Tom Bresnehan hit a right-footed sidewinder into the net to tie up the score and set up Hodgkins’ heroics.
Women’s soccer
Maine 4, Manhattan 0
ORONO – Heather Hathorn and Annie Hamel each scored a goal and added an assist as the University of Maine exploded for four unanswered second-half goals to propel the Black Bears to a 4-0 win over Manhattan College Sunday.
The Bears scored three goals in a span of four minutes to put the game out of reach. Kate Crawford and Kim Walsh rounded out the scoring for Maine.
USM 3, Simmons 0
GORHAM – Sophomore Eva Hanson scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, while classmate Devin Edwards added a goal and two assists to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-0 win over Simmons College in the second round of the USM Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies (2-0) concluded the two-game tournament with a 2-0 record. Clark University also finished with a 2-0 mark.
Husson 2, St. Joe’s 0
STANDISH- Deidra Ham scored seven minutes into the second half for the only goal Husson College would need as it handed St. Joe’s a 2-0 setback in women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.
Beatriz DeYcaza added an insurance goal with five minutes left in regulation to put the game out of reach.
