STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Junior Andrea Lindgren pitched a complete game three-hit shutout as the University of Albany defeated the University of Maine, 1-0, in the first round of the America East Softball Championship Thursday.

The Great Danes (33-8) scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when junior Liz Wieboldt tripled down the right field line, and scored on an errant throw to third. Lindgren intensified her pitching effort from there, tallying eight strikeouts, while not allowing a single walk for the victory.

The Black Bears (25-21) had four base runners, but were unable to advance a single player beyond first base. Maine was a bit sloppy on defense, committing four errors which included the very costly throwing error in the second inning.
