FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue will dedicate the scoreboard at Hippach Field in honor of legendary baseball coach Red Dean prior to Friday night’s game against Gardiner.
The dedication ceremony for the late coach will take place at 6:30 p.m., with the game following at 7 p.m.
Dean, who played minor league baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, coached varsity baseball in the Farmington-Wilton area for more than 20 years. Prior to becoming the first coach in Mt. Blue history, Dean coached at both Wilton Academy and Farmington High School.
He was recently inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame as a player and a coach.

GORHAM – For the first time in school history, the University of Southern Maine Huksies men’s and women’s tennis teams both captured the Little East Conference title in the same academic year.
The women won their second team title in the past three seasons in October, winning five singles and two doubles championships.
The men won their first-ever team championship in the 14-year history of the event last weekend. The Huskies dethroned seven-time defending champion UMass Dartmouth by one point, 12.5 to 11.5.
Members of the women’s team include seniors April Cohen (South Portland) and Sarah McLean (Portsmouth, R.I.), junior Emily Jose (Caribou), sophomores Megan Allyn (Cumberland), and freshman Lauren Fippinger (Burlington, Conn.), Catie McCarthy (Newport, Vt.), Amelia Rice (Hollis), Katie Tucker (North Claredon, Vt.) and Katherine Welch (Calais).
Members of the men’s team are senior Aaron Boulter (North Conway, N.H.) and Kendon Warren (Millinocket), junior Boonthai Singcharern (Lewiston), sophomores Derek Bragdon (Millinocket) and Andy Urbanak (Cornwall, Vt.), and freshmen Matt Filteau (Waterville), Michael King (Augusta), James McKeon (Rutland, Vt.), Jason Ouellette (Levant) and Brian Willer (Lewiston). The men’s team is under the direction of Phil Cole, assisted by St. Peter.
