NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Yankees have decided to alter their rotation, opting to start Chien-Ming Wang against the Texas Rangers on Thursday and move Phil Hughes into the bullpen.

Wang has pitched well since he was activated from the disabled list May 22 after being sidelined with weakness in the adductor muscles in his hips. He made three relief appearances, allowing two runs and nine hits in eight innings.

Manager Joe Girardi says he feels Wang is back to where he was before he injured his foot last season and wanted to make the switch while he was still stretched out enough to start.

The Yankees also changed their lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Rangers. First baseman Mark Teixeira was scratched with a bruised right ankle.
