JACKMAN — Demi Giroux drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Forest Hills to a stunning 40-38 double-overtime win over Buckfield in the teams’ East-West Conference contest on Friday.

The Bucks (0-7) had taken the lead with five seconds to play on the strength of a free throw, only to have Giroux run the floor, stop and pop the trey as time expired.

Giroux’s buzzer-beater was her fourth of the contest and brought her total to 15 points, which led all scorers. Taylor Fountaine also poured in 12 points for Forest Hills.

Katie Henderson hit two 3s and scored 12 to lead Buckfield.

Vinalhaven 53, Rangeley 39

VINALHAVEN — Vinalhaven handed Rangeley its first loss of the season as the Vikings defeated the Lakers 53-39 on Friday in a Class D South girls’ basketball contest.

The Vikings were led by Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes, who scored 19 points to lead all scorers. Davis-Oakes also grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Deja Doughty scored ten in the win.

Rangeley’s Natasha Haley earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards in defeat. Brooke Egan also contributed 10 points and four assists. Rangeley fell to 7-1 after the loss, while Vinalhaven moves to 6-0, continuing its undefeated start.

Leavitt 51, Lincoln Academy 35

NEWCASTLE — Sophie Gilbert led the way with 20 points as Leavitt pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Lincoln Academy 51-35 in a Class A South girls’ basketball matchup.

The contest was close throughout until the fourth, where Leavitt outscored Lincoln 14-2. Alongside Gilbert’s 20 points was Jayden Carpenter, who scored 10, including two 3s.

Kaitlyn Fettis led Lincoln with 15 points, however the loss brings the Eagles to 4-2, while Leavitt moves to 3-4 on the season.

Madison 56, Spruce Mountain 39

MADISON — A strong third quarter helped propel Madison to a 56-39 victory over Spruce Mountain in girls’ basketball on Friday.

After an eight-point lead at the half, the Bulldogs outscored Spruce 19-7 in the third to seal the win. Katie Werthen of Madison led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Sydney LeBlanc, who added an additional 12 for the Bulldogs.

Haley Turcotte hit three 3s on her way to 14 points to lead Spruce, however it wasn’t enough as the Phoenix fell to 4-3 on the season. Madison keeps its undefeated start going, moving to 8-0 on the year.

Mt. Abram 54, Telstar 30

BETHEL — Mt. Abram received 25 from Summer Ross and glided to a 54-30 victory over Telstar on Friday.

Ross scored 25 in part because of two 3’s, while Megan Sorel scored 12 of her own. Mt. Abram moves to 4-4 on the season with the victory.

Lucy Rothwell of Telstar scored 17 to lead the Rebels, but it wasn’t enough as Telstar is still winless at 0-8.

Winthrop 37, Hall-Dale 23

FARMINGDALE — Winthrop held on to its 20 point halftime lead and defeated Hall-Dale 37-23 in a Class C South girls’ basketball matchup on Friday.

Led by Jillian Schmelzer’s 15 points, a game high, Winthrop glided to the victory in the second half. Aaliyah WilsonFalcone also added 11 points.

Sabrina Freeman led Hall-Dale with 13. With the loss, Hall dale drops to 2-5, while Winthrop’s hot start continues at 7-2.

St. Dom’s 55, Kents Hill 21

AUBURN — Becca Zimmerman dazzled the fans with eight field goals, including four from three-point range, for 30 points as St. Dom’s took a commanding 55-21 victory over Kents Hill in girls’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

Zimmerman scored 11 of the Saints’ 21 fourth quarter points. Caroline Gastonguay and Skye Rogers contributed eight points apiece for St. Dom’s.

Jarni Hewins provided the bulk of the Huskies’ scoring with eight points in the losing effort.

Boothbay 73, Carrabec 27

NORTH ANSON — Senior Paige Brown poured in a game-high 29 points as Boothbay cruised to a 73-27 victory over Carrabec in girls’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks (8-0) soared to a 29-6 first quarter lead. Glory Blethen and Faith Blethen contributed 13 and 12 pionts, respectively, for Boothbay.

The Cobaras (2-5) managed only a quarter-high of nine points in the third frame. Bailey Dunphy tossed a team-high seven points for Carrabec in the losing effort.

Lewiston 61, Noble 51

LEWISTON — Victoria Harris tossed in a team-high 18 points in a balanced attack as Lewiston dispatched Noble 61-51 in girls’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

Following a first quarter 13-13 tie, the Blue Devils took a 26-22 lead at the midpoint. Lauren Foster contributed 11 points for Lewiston.

Raegan Kelly was prolific from the field, netting 11 field goals and adding five free throws for 27 points for the Knights in the losing effort.

Oxford Hills 50, Deering 35

PORTLAND — Julia Colby bucketed 15 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 50-35 victory over Deering in girls’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Vikings took a 24-16 hafltime lead. Maighread Laliberte contributed 13 points for Oxford Hills.

Delaney Haines tossed five field goals and three free throws, including a three-pointer, to lead the Rams with 14 points in the losing effort.

Boys’ basketball

Lewiston 52, Noble 47

NORTH BERWICK — Lewiston overcame an 11-point halftime deficit with a strong second half to defeat Noble 52-47 in a Class AA boys’ basketball contest on Friday.

Lewiston outscored Noble 38 to 22 in the second half to surge back for its second win of the year (2-5). The Blue Devils were led by Yasin Mohamed and Ali Omar who each scored 11 points.

Noble received 17 points from Tyler Oliver on four 3s, however a slow third quarter did them in, dropping the Knights record to a winless 0-7.

Rangeley 50, Vinalhaven 37

VINALHAVEN — Senior guard Kyle Larochelle drained 31 points to lead Rangeley to a 50-37 victory over Vinalhaven in boys’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Lakers (5-3) broke the game open with a 22-11 run in the second quarter for a 30-17 lead at the break. Freshman guard Kenney Thompson contriburted 12 points for Rangeley.

Senior guard Keon Arey led the Vikings (0-8) with 14 points on seven field goals in the losing effort.

Messalonskee 79, Mt. Blue 68

FARMINGTON — Sophomore guard Tucker Charles posted a game-high 30 points to lift Messalonskee to a 79-68 trimph over Mt. Blue in boy’s basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Eagles (4-3) jumped out to a big start. But, the Cougars (0-8) responded decisively to finish the first quarter only six down. Mt. Blue turned up the offense in the second quarter for a 41-39 halftime liead.

However, Messalonskee managed to improve both offense and defense in the second half to retake and improve upon their lead.

Senior guard James Anderson collected a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Mt. Blue, while sophomore forward Hunter Donald also recorded 15 points in the losing effort.

Oxford Hills 40, Deering 37

PARIS — Senior guard Chris St.Pierre notched 14 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 40-37 victory over Deering in boys’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Vikings (3-4) got behind early, but defended well and managed to take a one-point lead (14-13) at halftime. Junior forward Colton Carson tallied nine points and 15 rebounds for Oxford Hills.

Junior forward Ben Onek gathered up a double-double with a game-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds for the Rams (4-2) in the losing effort.

Leavitt 56, Lincoln Academy 54

TURNER — Junor guard Josh Banks tabulated a team-high 17 points and hit a key layup with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to lift Leavitt to a 56-54 victory over Lincoln Academy in boys’ basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Hornets (4-3) trailed 29-26 at the half. Freshman gaurd Wyatt Hathaway posted 14 points and tossed three three’s in the third quarter for Leavitt.

Sophomore forward Cole Morin chipped in with 10 rebounds for Leavitt.

Senior guard Keyden Leeman extracted a game-high 21 points for the Eagles (0-6) in the losing effort.
