FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Chad Marshall scored his fourth goal of the season and the Columbus Crew held on for a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.
The Eastern Conference-leading Crew (15-6-5) extended their unbeaten streak to seven (6-0-1) matches, beating New England for the second time in three meetings this season.
Marshall headed in the goal off Robbie Rogers’ corner kick from the left in the 35th minute. It was his third game-winning goal and the first surrendered on a corner kick this season by New England (12-8-6).
Columbus played the final 25 minutes short-handed after captain Frankie Hejduk was issued his second yellow card of the match for interfering with New England goalie Matt Reis.
William Hesmer notched his eighth shutout of the season, having to make just two saves.
Columbus was without Guillermo Schelotto, leading MLS with assists, who has missed the last three matches with a hamstring strain.
The Crew beat New England 4-0 in September after losing 1-0 in May to the Revolution.
The Revolution, winless (0-5-4) when trailing at halftime, have six shutout losses.
