SAN DIEGO – Brandon Webb outpitched Jake Peavy in a battle of the last two NL Cy Young Award winners, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Webb (6-0), the 2006 Cy Young winner, allowed just one unearned run and twice escaped bases-loaded jams before leaving after six innings. He became the first six-game winner in the majors and lowered his ERA to 1.98.

Chris Snyder, who was pulled from the starting lineup Saturday because of the flu, hit a two-out home run in the second after Peavy walked Stephen Drew. It was Snyder’s first home run since Sept. 16.

Peavy (3-1) gave up four hits in seven innings, losing at home for the first time in 10 starts since July. Peavy had gone 6-0 with a 0.68 ERA in that span.

Webb combined with three relievers on a five-hitter. Brandon Lyon pitched the ninth for his seventh save in nine chances.

Peavy and two relievers held the Diamondbacks to four hits.

Dodgers 3, Rockies 2

LOS ANGELES – James Loney singled home the winning run in the 10th inning, and the Dodgers completed a three-game sweep.

It’s the first three-game winning streak of the season for Los Angeles under new manager Joe Torre, who used his 24th different lineup in 25 games as he continues to search for a consistent combination after making the playoffs in each of the last 12 seasons with the New York Yankees.

Manny Corpas (0-2), working his second inning of relief, walked Rafael Furcal and pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney to open the 10th. Both runners advanced on Matt Kemp’s sacrifice, and Loney grounded a 1-0 pitch through the right side of the infield to end it.

Joe Beimel (1-0) got the win, stranding runners at second and third in the top of the 10th when Jeff Baker fouled out to first base.

Mets 6, Braves 3

NEW YORK – Carlos Delgado turned boos into a standing ovation with his first two-homer game in almost a year, leading the Mets to the win.

New York knocked out John Smoltz after four innings in his first shaky outing of the season and got a three-hit game from backup catcher Raul Casanova.

Delgado came into the game in a 3-for-34 slump and hadn’t homered since April 8. He went 2-for-2 with two walks and turned in his first two-homer game since May 29 against the San Francisco Giants.

Smoltz (3-2) allowed four runs and seven hits over four innings in his shortest outing of the season. The right-hander said he experienced some “discomfort” in his throwing shoulder.

Nelson Figueroa (2-1) went 5 1-3 innings for the Mets and was charged with three runs and seven hits. Billy Wagner pitched the ninth for his sixth save.

PITTSBURGH – Paul Maholm tossed a two-hitter, Nate McLouth hit two home runs and Pittsburgh avoided a three-game sweep.

Maholm (2-2) walked four and struck out two in his third career complete game. He improved to 2-0 in three starts at PNC Park this season and has allowed just two runs in 20 1-3 innings at home.

Both of Philadelphia’s hits came in the fifth inning. Pat Burrell doubled with one out and scored on Eric Bruntlett’s single to center.

It was Maholm’s first complete game since Aug. 13 against San Francisco, also at PNC Park, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Brett Myers (2-2) allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings for the Phillies.

Cardinals 5, Astros 1

ST. LOUIS – Troy Glaus hit his first home run with St. Louis and Albert Pujols also went deep.

Glaus, who was acquired in an offseason trade that sent Scott Rolen to Toronto, entered the game leading the major leagues with the most RBIs without a home run. Glaus went 87 at-bats before hitting a 1-1 offering from Brandon Backe (1-3) to center field for his 16th and 17th RBIs to cap a four-run fifth inning.

Glaus’ drive was the first in nine games for the Cardinals and scored Ryan Ludwick, who doubled in Rick Ankiel and Pujols to put St. Louis in front 2-1. Pujols homered to center in the seventh.

Kyle Lohse (3-0) went six innings for St. Louis, giving up four hits and one run. Kyle McClellan pitched three perfect innings for his first career save.

Marlins 3, Brewers 2

MILWAUKEE – Wes Helms came through in just his fourth start of the year, leading off the 10th inning with a home run to lift Florida to the win.

Helms hit an 0-2 pitch off Seth McClung (1-1) about five feet over the left-field wall for his first home run since last Aug. 10. Playing for injured first baseman Mike Jacobs, Helms went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs.

Matt Lindstrom (1-0) pitched the ninth, allowing a pair of baserunners before striking out Ryan Braun to end the threat. Kevin Gregg, the Marlins’ eighth pitcher of the game, worked the 10th for his fourth save in five chances. He struck out Craig Counsell with runners on first and third to end the game.

SAN FRANCISCO – Edinson Volquez struck out a career-high 10 in seven innings, Brandon Phillips homered twice and Cincinnati roughed up Barry Zito.

Volquez (4-0) allowed one run and five hits to win his third consecutive start, and Ryan Freel’s two-run single keyed a six-run first inning for Cincinnati. Freel later doubled and scored as the Reds won consecutive games for the first time in more than two weeks.

Zito, winless in his first six starts for the first time in his career, gave up eight runs and walked three in only three innings.

Phillips hit solo home runs in the seventh and ninth, the fourth time in his career he’s had two homers in one game.
