BOSTON (AP) – Mike Huckabee has dropped out of another race. The former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate has withdrawn from the Boston Marathon because of a knee injury, organizers said Friday.

Huckabee had registered for Monday’s 26.2-mile race in January, when he was still running for president, as part of the charity program. He was to participate with Team Hoyt, which is organized by Dick Hoyt, who has pushed his son in a modified wheelchair for 25 marathons. Rick Hoyt was born with cerebral palsy.

Huckabee, 51, lost 110 pounds after being diagnosed with diabetes in 2003 when he was governor of Arkansas. He has run four marathons, finishing with a personal best time of 4 hours, 26 minutes, 5 seconds at the 2006 Little Rock Marathon.

Huckabee won the leadoff Iowa caucuses and seven other states, but couldn’t ride conservative dissatisfaction with John McCain to the party’s nomination. He dropped out on March 4 after the Arizona senator had secured enough delegates to clinch the nomination.
