Margaret W. Savignano
1926 – 2009
AUBURN – Margaret W. Savignano, 83, of Colonial Way, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.
She was born in Auburn on July 3, 1926, the daughter of the late Philip and Ruth (Williamson) Watson. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, class of 1944, and went on to graduate from University of Maine Orono in 1949.
Margaret was married to Alfred N. Savignano on June 26, 1948. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 1998. Her first teaching position was as a home economics teacher for Elsworth High School. After moving to Auburn, she was a substitute teacher in Auburn and Lewiston for many years.
Margaret was a very active member at the High Street Congregational Church volunteering much of her time there. She was also a member of the Auburn Art Club, Wednesday Morning Club, University of Maine Club and The Woman’s Hospital Association. She enjoyed sewing, golf, but most of all loved her family. She also loved the city of Auburn and the state of Maine.
She leaves two daughters, Nancy Marino and her husband, Michael, of Cape Elizabeth and Mary Gagnon and her husband, Tim, of Auburn; a son, Philip Savignano and his wife, Christine, of Auburn; and five grandchildren, Mercedes Marino, Chelsea Edwards and her husband, Dustin, Margaret Morris and her husband, Matt, Sean Savignano and Gabriel Gagnon.
