AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced plans to strengthen its fundraising efforts, with the creation of a new development committee.

Jim Wilkins, director of advancement for Community Concepts and new library trustee, will chair the library’s Development Committee. Additional members include past board president Elizabeth Sheppard; Auburn Public Library board member and Women’s Literary Union board member Tonie Ramsey; former library capital campaign chairwoman and Nature Conservancy trustee Barbara Trafton; Alice Mogensen, membership coordinator for the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce; and Auburn Public Library Executive Director Lynn Lockwood. The committee will review the library’s fundraising programs and work on fresh initiatives to support library services and programs.

The Development Committee is already putting their heads together to come up with a full year of events centering on the Annual Appeal. Many people are unaware that the Auburn Public Library raises 20 percent of its operating budget with gifts from foundations, corporations, endowments and individuals – more than $200,000 annually.

“The Auburn Public Library is a vital cornerstone of our community and a gathering place for people to learn and expand their own opportunities,” said Wilkins. “The funds raised in the annual campaign help us maintain our book collection and periodicals, allow us to keep up with changing technologies and, most importantly, keep the library open and available for everyone.”
