Coach: Doug Gilbert (15th year)
Last year’s record: 16-4, Class C state runner-up
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Dylan Castonguay (130/135), Brandon Jonaitis (135/140), Chad Oakes (140/145), Alex Meile (152/’160); Junior – Ryan Lemay (112/119); Sophomores – Caleb Hall (112/119), Bryan Blackman (135/140).
Key losses: Josh Palmer (160), Tom Hines (145), A.J. Carrier (285).
Promising newcomers: Senior – Ben Dolloff (285); Freshmen – Brett Whitemore (103), Adam Gill (119/125), Nelson Pepin (145/152), D.J. Webber (152/160), Thomas Barnett (171/189), Zach White (189/215), Tyler Crawford (215).
What to expect: The Cougars started late after football, but the returnees have plenty of experience. Seven had more than 20 wins, including defending state champions Hall and Jonaitis. Blackman and Miele (37-6) werre both state finalists, and Hall won the MAWA tourney. Oakes and Castonguay add depth, while several freshman could make an impact. This is a dominant team in the making. The Cougars are always in the hunt.
Outlook: “We like the mixing of upperclass experience and the excitement the freshman class is going to bring. Lisbon is tough this year, but we like to close the gap a little and gear up for a run in the next few years.” – Coach Doug Gilbert
