Girls’ Basketball
Coach: Craig Jipson (fifth year)
Last year’s record: 17-3, lost in Eastern A semfinal
Returning letter winners: Seniors – Kirsten Prue (5-7 guard), Kayla Cummings (5-8 forward); Juniors – Miranda Martin (5-8 forward), Emily Grund (5-6 guard), Dawna Daigle (5-10 forward), Francesca Lally (5-6 guard), Hali Henry (5-5 guard); Sophomores – Kelly Philbrook (5-5 guard), Crissy Lewis (5-10 forward).
Key losses: Abby Downs (forward), Alyssa Levesque (guard), Katelyn St. Hilaire (forward), Karen Leary (guard).
Promising newcomers: Sophomores – Mary Kate Masters (5-7), Jaclyn Masters (5-7), Emily Hartnett (5-6); Freshmen – Ashlee Arnold (5-7), Kate Sawyer (5-7).
Outlook: The Red Eddies graduated four veteran hard-working players that helped EL be the defensive team it was last year in winning the KVAC title. EL still returns All-Conference picks Prue (14.5 ppg), Cummings (12.5 ppg) and Lally (9 ppg). The bench is less experienced, and EL will have work to do to match the defensive play of last year. EL should still be a formidable club and be in the hunt for a tourney spot.
Coach’s comment: “The KVAC South is absolutely loaded this year. Every team is better, and we have added two games with Messalonskee to our very difficult schedule. We will need to play great defense every night, and our young players will need to grow up in a hurry for us to even contend with most of the teams on our schedule.” – Coach Craig Jipson.
