SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) – Colin Gallagher kicked a 47-yard field goal in the second quarter and Rhode Island’s defense made it hold up as the Rams sloshed their way to a 3-0 win over Maine on Saturday.

With a stiff wind that gusted up to 50 mph at his back, Gallagher capped a 50-yard drive with a low knuckleball through the uprights to give Rhode Island (3-5, 1-4 Atlantic 10) the lead with 10:41 to play in the half.

Maine (5-3, 4-1) started four drives inside Rhode Island territory in the fourth quarter, but gained only 8 yards in the period, getting stopped on four consecutive fourth-down attempts.

Arel Gordon ran for 128 yrads as the Black Bears collected 247 total yards, compared to the Rams 135, but turned the ball over on an interception and a fumble.

Rhode Island’s Joe Casey led the Rams with 66 yards rushing on 22 carries.

Maine kicker Devin McNeill missed a 25-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first quarter.
