PORTLAND (AP) – Randy Ruiz and Shelley Duncan hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning, powering the Trenton Thunder past the Portland Sea Dogs 5-2 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
The win snapped the Thunder’s string of four straight losses and ended the Sea Dogs’ five-game winning streak.
After David Murphy’s RBI single put the Sea Dogs (19-12) on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, Duncan’s double was the big hit as the Thunder (11-20) seized the lead with two in the sixth.
Luis Jimenez made it 2-2 with a homer in the bottom of the inning.
Ruiz snapped the tie in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer to the base of the left-center field scoreboard, then Duncan made it 5-2 with a powerful line drive that sailed over the left field wall.
