PITTSBURGH (AP) – Brad Stuart scored two power-play goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night.
The Bruins, who outshot Pittsburgh 38-15, have earned at least a point in 11 of 13 games. Pittsburgh fell to 1-15-2 in its last 18. Green gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead 7 minutes into the second period when he took a rebound of Josh Langfeld’s shot just to the right of Marc-Andre Fleury, deked around the goalie’s stick and roofed a shot as he stood beyond the goal line.
Stuart was credited with his ninth goal of the season when Brian Leetch’s shot appeared to deflect off his right skate with just less than 4 minutes remaining in the second period. Leetch returned to the lineup after missing three straight games – and 10 of 12 – due to a groin injury.
Stuart made it 3-0 when he scored on a wrist shot through Fleury’s pads with 13:45 to play. The goal came just as Pittsburgh’s Tomas Surovy stepped out of the penalty box, shortening the Bruins’ skating advantage to 5-on-4.
Glen Murray assisted on both of Stuart’s goals.
Surovy ruined Tim Thomas’ shutout bid when he scored on a rebound with 1:31 left.
The Bruins turned aside all six Penguins power plays, extending their impressive penalty-killing run ti 94 of 105.
But the Penguins’ short-handed woes continued. Pittsburgh has allowed 15 power-play goals in the last 48 chances.
