MONTREAL – Petr Sykora had a goal and an assist, and Andy McDonald and Teemu Selanne each had two assists, leading the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to their first win in Montreal in seven years, 5-3 over the Canadiens on Saturday night.

Zenon Konopka, Ruslan Salei, Jonathan Hedstrom and Rob Niedermayer also scored and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 21 shots for Anaheim, which had gone 0-3-1 in Montreal since a 5-4 win on March 21, 1998.

The Mighty Ducks, who lost 3-2 in overtime Thursday in Buffalo, ended a two-game losing streak and won for the fifth time in seven games (5-1-1).

Rookie Alexander Perezhogin scored Montreal’s second goal after assisting on Richard Zednik’s disputed tally in the first. Michael Ryder completed the scoring with his team-leading 12th goal in the third.

The Canadiens, who hadn’t played since a 3-2 win over Los Angeles a week earlier, lost for the ninth time in 12 games (3-5-4) after winning 12 of their first 16.

With Alex Kovalev and Saku Koivu sidelined by injuries, Montreal’s lineup was bolstered by the return of defensemen Andrei Markov and Mike Komisarek. Both missed three games.

Markov served a suspension for shoving a linesman.

Komisarek, who had been home with his family following his mother’s death, was on the ice for each of Anaheim’s first four goals, including three on six shifts in the first period.

Konopka, Sykora and Salei scored first-period goals as Anaheim had a 20-10 margin in shots while building a 3-1 lead.

Islanders 3, Oilers 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Alexei Yashin and Trent Hunter scored in a shootout and the New York Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak at home by beating the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Hunter’s won it on the final shot of the shootout after Rick DiPietro stopped Edmonton’s Ryan Smyth.

Hunter and Arron Asham scored power-play goals in regulation for New York. DiPietro made 26 saves.

Fernando Pisani and Chris Pronger scored for the Oilers, 7-2-2 in their last 11 games. Jussi Markkanen stopped 22 shots.

Pronger tied it with 64 seconds left in regulation on Edmonton’s eighth power play. He was left alone in the slot, took a pass from Ales Hemsky, and wristed a shot past DiPietro.

Hunter scored earlier in the period to give New York a 2-1 lead. Parked in the slot, Hunter got a piece of defenseman Chris Campoli’s toss at the net, redirecting the puck by Markkanen.

Penguins 4, Avalanche 3

PITTSBURGH – Mark Recchi, stalled for weeks in one of the longest slumps of his career, had a goal and an assist, and the Pittsburgh Penguins ended a six-game losing streak by holding off the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 Saturday night.

Despite goals by Milan Hejduk, Dan Hinote and rookie Marek Svatos, the Avalanche stayed perfect four times they’ve played on successive nights – each time they’ve won the first game and lost the second. They beat New Jersey 4-3 in a shootout Friday night.

Recchi began the game with a minus-20, the worst mark of the NHL’s 749 players this season. The 464-goal scorer had none in 10 games and only one in 14. He called Thursday’s 5-0 loss to Minnesota one of the low points of his career.

But after a team meeting Friday called by coach Eddie Olczyk and attended by general manager Craig Patrick, the Penguins responded with one of the few strong defensive games they’ve played while going 8-15-6.

Lightning 4, Predators 3

TAMPA, Fla. – Dave Andreychuk snapped an 18-game scoring drought with a power-play goal, and John Grahame set a team record with his ninth consecutive win as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Nashville Predators 4-3 on Saturday night.

Andreychuk is the NHL’s career power-play goal leader with 272. He has 637 goals overall, but just three this season.

Grahame made 13 saves in breaking the old Lightning mark set by Nikolai Khabibulin during the their Stanley Cup championship run in 2004. Khabibulin signed with the Chicago Blackhawks during the offseason.

Martin St. Louis, Darryl Sydor and Vincent Lecavalier also scored for Tampa Bay, which has won five straight and 10 of 12.

St. Louis has scored goals in four straight games.

Rangers 5, Blues 4

ST. LOUIS – Martin Rucinsky’s shot hit the end glass and bounced in off the back of goalie Patrick Lalime in overtime, giving the New York Rangers a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.

Jaromir Jagr added to his NHL-leading point total with a goal and three assists, including one on Rucinsky’s flukey winner.

Jagr has 50 points in 32 games on 23 goals and 27 assists. He is on pace for 128 points, which would be his highest total since the 2000-01 season when he had 121 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Rangers have won nine of 11 and have 44 points, ranking near the top of the NHL standings after missing the playoffs in seven straight seasons. The Blues have lost three in a row and six of seven. St. Louis is a league-worst 3-10-2 at home.

Rucinsky had two goals and an assist for the Rangers. He scored the decisive goal 1:37 into overtime when his slap shot from just inside the blue line hit off the glass behind the Blues goal and deflected in off Lalime’s back.

Jason Strudwick and Petr Prucha also scored for the Rangers.
