MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Brad Smyth registered a goal and an assist and Adam Hauser stopped 34 shots to lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-1 victory over the Portland Pirates Friday night.
With Manchester holding a precarious 2-1 lead, Konstantin Pushkarev broke in alone and beat Nathan Marsters to extend the lead to 3-1, cementing the Manchester win. Marsters stopped 26 shots for Portland in the loss.
Igor Pohanka snapped a shot from the slot past Hauser on the power play for the only tally of the period. The goal cut the Manchester lead to 2-1 after two periods of play.
Smyth batted a mid-air pass from Noah Clarke past Marsters for a power-play goal and a 1-0 Monarchs lead. Connor James tipped a Richard Seeley wrist shot into the upper region of the net, staking Manchester to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
