CHICAGO – Carlos Zambrano pitched one-hit ball into the eighth inning and had two singles and an RBI to help the Chicago Cubs hand the Milwaukee Brewers their first loss of the season, 4-0 Saturday.

Zambrano gave up only a two-out line single in the second inning to Russell Branyan as he outpitched fellow opening day starter Ben Sheets.

Jeromy Burnitz hit a solo homer and Todd Walker a two-run double for the Cubs, who snapped a three-game losing skid. The Brewers were the last remaining undefeated team entering in the major leagues.

Through the first six innings, Zambrano set down a Brewers lineup that scored 25 runs in the first three games in order four times.

Giants 4, Rockies 2

SAN FRANCISCO – Michael Tucker hit his first career grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning to lift the San Francisco Giants over the Colorado Rockies 4-2 Saturday.

The homer decided a pitching duel between Colorado’s Jamey Wright and San Francisco’s Jerome Williams.

Wright gave up a first-inning single to J.T. Snow and then did not allow another hit until Marquis Grissom singled to open the seventh inning. Wright took a three-hitter into the eighth.

Nationals 3, Marlins 2

MIAMI – Jose Guillen hit a two-out home run in the 10th inning, and Ryan Church and Vinny Castilla also hit solo homers to help the Washington Nationals defeat the Florida Marlins 3-2 on Saturday.

The Nationals were two outs away from winning in the ninth, but Carlos Delgado’s first home run in a Marlins uniform pulled Florida into a 2-all tie. Paul Lo Duca nearly won it for Florida two batters later, but his flyball to left bounced off the top of the scoreboard and stayed in the park.

Phillies 10, Cardinals 4

ST. LOUIS – Rookie Gavin Floyd pitched seven dominant innings Saturday, retiring 19 straight St. Louis Cardinals batters and giving the Philadelphia Phillies’ beleaguered bullpen a break in a 10-4 victory.

Philadelphia relievers had blown three straight late-inning leads and entered the game 0-3 with an 8.76 ERA and an opponents’ batting average of .377.

Pat Burrell was 4-for-5 with a three-run home run and five RBIs, and Chase Utley and Bobby Abreu also homered for the Phillies.

Braves 6, Mets 3

ATLANTA – Brian Jordan hit a grand slam to lead the Atlanta Braves to their fourth straight victory with a 6-3 win over New York, extending the Mets’ season-opening losing streak to five games.

Chipper Jones also homered to help the Braves keep the Mets as the only winless team in the majors.

Astros 4, Reds 3

HOUSTO N – Pinch-hitter Jose Vizcaino hit an RBI double with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, completing the Houston Astros’ rally from a three-run deficit to beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 Saturday night.

Willy Taveras led off the ninth with an infield single off Ryan Wagner (0-1), and Vizcaino, hitting for Brad Lidge, doubled off the right-field wall and scored Taveras.

Lidge (1-0) pitched an inning for the win. Wagner came on for the Reds to start the ninth.

The Astros scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie it after being shut down for five innings by Paul Wilson.

Jeff Bagwell hit a leadoff homer, the Astros’ first home run of the season, and after Morgan Ensberg singled, Jason Lane connected for a two-run shot to make it 3-all.

Taveras went 3-for-4 for the Astros.

Wilson left after the sixth having allowed three runs and eight hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Houston starter Brandon Backe worked five innings and gave up two runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out five.

The Reds opened the scoring in the first. D’Angelo Jimenez led off with a walk and advanced to third on Ken Griffey Jr.’s double to right. He scored when Lane’s throw back into the infield was wide of the cutoff.

Jason LaRue’s two-out single to left drove in Rich Aurilia from second for a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Wilson’s RBI single in the sixth scored Aurilia from third to make it3-0.

Notes: Roger Clemens was honored for his seventh Cy Young Award in a pregame ceremony. The club presented him with a portrait of himself, two plane tickets anywhere in the world, a pair of custom-made cowboy boots and 7,000 Astros tickets for him to distribute to needy children through the Clemens Foundation. Clemens said he would hang the Cy Young plaques at Minute Maid Park for fans to see this season. … Houston was the only team in the majors without a home run coming in. … Lane’s error was the Astros first of the season leaving the Reds as the only team in the majors without an error.
