PORTLAND – Matt Scanlon hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to power the New Britain Rock Cats to a 10-7 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday in the Eastern League.
Billy Munoz also knocked a three-run homer for the Rock Cats and Garrett Jones had a solo shot.
Kenny Perez went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Sea Dogs (28-32) with a triple and a double. Mike Campo and Sean McGowan had RBI doubles for Portland. The game was a see-saw affair. Munoz’s homer with two aboard was the key hit as New Britain (28-30) scored four runs in the first inning, and Jones’ solo homer erased a one-run deficit to tie the game 7-7 in the eighth.
Portland scored once in the first, once in the second and took the lead with three in the third.
With the scored tied at seven, Seth Davidson led off New Britain’s 10th with a bloop double. With two outs, Rob Bowen was walked intentionally and both runners scored when Scanlon lofted a long fly ball over the right-field fences.
