PORTLAND (AP) – Rastislav Stana turned aside 38 shots as the Portland Pirates defeated the Worcester IceCats 2-1 Friday in the American Hockey League.

The loss ended the IceCats’ unbeaten string at five consecutive games.

Francois Methot notched a pair of assists for the Pirates.

Portland (18-17-7-6) took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission as Mike Vigilante and Boyd Gordon scored their first goals of the season, at 6:53 and 10:42, respectively.

After a scoreless second period, the IceCats (22-17-9-1) narrowed it to one when Peter Sejna beat Stana at 6:49 of the third period. Worcester outshot Portland 39-17, and peppered Stana with 16 shots in the third.
