BOSTON (AP) – The NHL suspended Boston Bruins forward Martin Lapointe for Monday night’s game against Washington for a match penalty at Tampa Bay.

Lapointe may have needed the time off anyway, having been diagnosed with shingles, a virus that causes a painful rash. It didn’t stop him from cross-checking Lightning defenseman Brad Lukowich in the head in the third period of Saturday’s 4-2 loss. Lukowich lay on the ice for a minute or so, but stayed in the game; Lapointe was given a five-minute match penalty.

Also Monday, the Bruins recalled forward Ivan Huml and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn from their minor-league affiliate in Providence to take the place of forward Sergei Samsonov (knee sprain) and defenseman Ian Moran (ankle sprain), who remain on injured reserve.

Morrisonn, 21, had two assists with 16 penalty minutes in 18 Providence games. He played in 11 NHL games with Boston in the 2002-03 season.

Huml, 22, played two games in Boston at the beginning of the season before being sent down on Oct. 14. He had seven goals, four assists and 23 penalty minutes in 22 AHL games.
