TORONTO – Jeff Weaver scattered four hits over eight innings and Jason Giambi homered in his third straight game as New York beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 on Sunday.
Giambi had four RBIs and eight in the three-game series. The Yankees, who took two of three from Toronto, moved two games ahead of Boston for first place in the AL East.
The fading Blue Jays went 1-5 in six straight games against the Red Sox and the Yankees. Toronto is nine games behind New York and seven behind Boston.
Weaver (5-7) allowed just one run, while striking out seven and walking none for just his second win in his last nine starts.
Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth, giving up the Blue Jays other hit and an RBI groundout to Carlos Delgado.
Delgado also had an RBI single in the fourth. He leads the majors with 97 RBIs, the third most RBIs before the All-Star break. Hank Greenberg had 103 in 1935 and Juan Gonzalez had 101 in 1998.

Sean Casey singled with one out in the 12th off Leo Estrella (2-2) and Boone followed with his 16th homer to left to give the Reds their third win in a row after losing eight straight. Boone had been 0-for-5 before the homer.
Felix Heredia (5-0) was perfect through the final 2 1-3 innings for Cincinnati, which had its biggest comeback of the season.
Milwaukee tied the score at 8 in the ninth when Richie Sexson hit a two-out RBI single to center that drove in Scott Podsednik, who singled to lead off the inning.
Cardinals 3, Padres 1
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Spot starter Kerry Robinson hit a triple and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 to complete a three-game sweep on Sunday.
Both benches cleared in the first inning when Albert Pujols was hit in the shoulder blade on the first pitch he saw from Adam Eaton, a day after Pujols lingered at the plate following his game-winning, two-run home run in a 9-7, 11-inning victory.
Eaton was immediately ejected, and Pujols, Padres catcher Gary Bennett and San Diego manager Bruce Bochy also were kicked out. During a brief confrontation Pujols punched Bennett in the face.
Rookie Dan Haren allowed one run in six innings in his third major league start for the Cardinals.
Mets 4, Phillies 3
NEW YORK (AP) – Jason Phillips hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning and the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 Sunday to snap a six-game losing streak.
Tom Glavine pitched six solid innings for the Mets, who overcame another blown save by Armando Benitez and ended the Phillies’ five-game winning streak.
Former New York and Philadelphia reliever Tug McGraw, always a fan favorite at Shea Stadium, threw out the ceremonial first pitch as the Mets honored their 1973 NL championship team before the game. McGraw, recovering from surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor, got a warm ovation from the crowd of 31,630.
Benitez, far less popular among Mets fans than McGraw was, entered in the ninth with a 3-2 lead and got the first two outs. But Nick Punto singled, Jim Thome walked and Mike Lieberthal singled past a diving Ty Wigginton at third base to tie it, bringing a chorus of boos.
Astros 5, Pirates 2
HOUSTON – Tim Redding pitched six scoreless innings and Lance Berkman homered, leading the Houston Astros over the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 Sunday.

Brad Lidge pitched a scoreless seventh, and Octavio Dotel gave up a two-run homer to Aramis Ramirez in the eighth. Billy Wagner got three straight outs for his 25th save in 28 chances.
Mariners 13, Devil Rays 2
SEATTLE – Rookie Willie Bloomquist had his biggest day in the majors, hitting a grand slam for his first career homer and driving in six runs as the Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 13-2 on Sunday.
Joel Pineiro (11-5) won his sixth straight start, throwing seven strong innings. He gave up two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk, improving to 7-1 over his last nine starts.
Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-5 with a triple in the sixth. Along with two singles, he headed for the All-Star game after his major league-leading 46th multihit game.
Bloomquist was already a popular player in Seattle because he grew up a devoted Mariners fan in Port Orchard, Wash., just across the Puget Sound. His first-inning slam brought cheering fans to their feet.
Dodgers 9, Rockies 3
DENVER – Jolbert Cabrera had a three-run double in the first inning and Wilson Alvarez overcame some shaky moments for his first win in over a year as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 Sunday.
The Dodgers scored five runs in the first inning and three more in the ninth to win for just the fourth time in 16 games.
Colorado’s Todd Helton homered for the fourth time in three games to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. He was 2-for-4 and has 125 hits, one more than Dante Bichette’s 1998 team record for most before the All-Star break.
Colorado starter Denny Neagle (2-3) struggled in his previous two outings and the Dodgers didn’t waste any time knocking him around.
White Sox 7, Indians 4
CLEVELAND – Tony Graffanino hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday as the Chicago White Sox finished a disappointing first half with a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians.
Graffanino’s shot off Alex Herrera snapped a 4-4 tie and helped give the White Sox just their second win in seven games. Chicago is 45-49 entering the All-Star break.
Magglio Ordonez, one of Chicago’s three All-Stars, added a three-run homer.
Damaso Marte (4-1) pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Tom Gordon allowed consecutive singles to start the ninth before finishing for his third save.
Marlins 11, Expos 4
MONTREAL – Rookie Dontrelle Willis won his eighth straight decision and Ivan Rodriguez had four hits and drove in five runs to lead the Florida Marlins to an 11-4 win over the Montreal Expos on Sunday.
Home plate umpire Marty Foster sustained a concussion and had to be taken off on a stretcher after he was hit on the mask by a pitch in the fourth.
Willis (9-1), a late addition to the NL All-Star team, remained undefeated in 10 starts since losing on May 20 at Olympic Stadium.
Rodriguez, who went 4-for-4, hit an RBI double off Claudio Vargas (6-5) in the first and a run-scoring single in the third. He added a two-run double off Britt Reames in the fourth before driving in his fifth run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Angels 8, Twins 3
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Garret Anderson homered and right fielder Jeff DaVanon threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the seventh inning as the Anaheim Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 8-3 Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of the team they defeated in last year’s AL championship series.
John Lackey (7-8) allowed three runs and seven hits over six-plus innings, striking out five and walking two. Scott Spiezio and Bengie Molina had RBI doubles, helping the Angels win their fifth straight and 12th in 16 games.
Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer for the Twins, who have lost eight in a row, 22 of 28 and nine straight on the road.
Athletics 1, Orioles 0
OAKLAND, Calif. – Mark Ellis scored on a grounder back to the pitcher with one out in the ninth inning, giving the Oakland Athletics a 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday for a three-game sweep.
After Terrence Long flew out, Ellis hit a fly off Hector Carrasco (0-2) that appeared to bounce in and out of Melvin Mora’s glove as he hit the left-field fence for a triple. Billy McMillon then was walked intentionally to set up a potential double play.
With runners on first and third and a drwan-in infield, late-game defensive replacement Ramon Hernandez hit a grounder to Carrasco, who turned and threw to second without looking at Ellis, coming down the third-base line, ending a well pitched game by both starters.
Diamondbacks 7, Giants 4
PHOENIX – Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley and Shea Hillenbrand each drove in a pair of runs in the first two innings Sunday as the Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a three-game sweep with a 7-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Arizona beat the Giants for just the second time in eight tries this season and moved within five games of the NL West leaders heading into the All-Star break.
Rookie Brandon Webb, with an NL-best 2.18 ERA entering the game, struggled through a four-run first inning – including homers by J.T. Snow and Jose Cruz Jr. – then shut down the Giants on two hits for the next five.
Barry Bonds was 0-for-2 with two walks to snap a streak of home runs in five consecutive games.
Gonzalez, 0-for-7 in the first two games of the series, doubled in a run in the first and singled in another in the second as the Diamondbacks scored seven times in the first two innings, six off starter Jim Brower.
Finley doubled in a run in the first, then brought another home with a sacrifice fly in the second. Hillenbrand had an RBI groundout in the first and a run-scoring single in the second. Alex Cintron was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.
Webb (7-2) threw 121 pitches over six innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out eight, walked two and hit two batters. Over his final five innings, he walked one and struck out seven, including three of the last four batters he faced.
After the two first-inning homers, Rich Aurilia and Edgardo Alfonzo singled, then Webb hit Yorvit Torrealba with an 0-2 pitch to load the bases. His next pitch hit Brower to bring home the fourth run.
Webb settled down to retire the next nine. Stephen Randolph, Jose Valverde and Matt Mantei held the Giants hitless through the final three innings. Mantei struck out the side in the ninth for his 10th save in 12 opportunities.
Brower (5-2) allowed six runs on six hits and walked three in 1 1-3 innings.
After the Diamondbacks scored three times in the first, Quinton McCracken led off Arizona’s second with a single and was sacrificed to second by Webb. Craig Counsell walked for the second time, then Cintron singled home the tying run.
Gonzalez singled in Counsell off reliever Chad Zerbe to give Arizona its first lead of the series, 5-4, then Cintron scored on Hillenbrand’s single. Finley’s sacrifice fly put the Diamondbacks up 7-4.
Notes: Cruz’s home run was the 28th “splashdown” into the swimming pool in the six-year history of Bank One Ballpark, the second this season. … The Giants acquired RHP Matt Herges from San Diego for minor league right-hander Clay Hensley, along with a player to be named or cash considerations. … Randy Johnson will make a rehab start for Class-A Lancaster at Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday night and could rejoin the Diamondbacks’ rotation next Sunday in San Diego.
