SAN DIEGO – Brian Giles hit a two-run homer and singled home Dave Roberts with the winning run in the 10th off Micah Bowie (0-1).

Doug Brocail (2-0), the sixth Padres pitcher, threw a perfect 10th for the win. Starter Jake Peavy allowed one run and four hits in 5 1-3 innings, striking out six and matching a season-high with five walks.

Washington’s Alfonso Soriano hit his 31st career homer leading off a game.

Diamondbacks 4, Astros 3

PHOENIX – Luis Gonzalez tied Lou Gehrig for 26th place with his 534th double, then broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth when he scored on Carlos Quentin’s broken-bat single against Andy Pettitte (10-12).

Claudio Vargas (9-8) gave up a two-run homer to Lance Berkman in the first but blanked the Astros for the next five innings. Jorge Julio struck out Morgan Ensberg with runners on first and third for his 14th save.

Pettitte dropped to 1-5 against Arizona, giving up four runs and eight hits in 7 1-3 innings.
