GRAY – Woodlot owners will learn how to protect their lots from timber theft at a free workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16, at the Whitney Land Trust.

The event is sponsored by the Southern Maine Chapter, Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine, the Maine Forest Service and Maine Boundary Consultants.

A professional land surveyor, a consulting forester, a state forester and a forest ranger will discuss steps that should be taken to protect trees and what happens in the event of a theft or trespass. The workshop will be outside,
