Capt. Mathew D. Elliott, grandson of a former Lewiston couple, has been deployed to Iraq where he will serve a 12-month term.
Elliott is the only son of David and Cecilia Parent Elliott of Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was raised in West Newfield, and his maternal grandparents, Omer R. Parent Sr. of Port Charlotte, Fla., and the late Gloria Saucier Parent are from Lewiston. His paternal grandparents, the Rev. Bernard and Evelyn Elliott, reside in Lyman.
Elliott joined the Army on June 14, 1995, after graduating from Massabesic High School in Waterboro.
He completed military analyst school and was deployed to Korea. He received a Green to Gold Scholarship and graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a BS in aeronautical science in 2001. He earned his commercial multi-engine pilot license and completed airborne school and SERE school. He was recognized as the highest ranking cadet and served as battalion commander of Embry Riddle’s Army Corps of Cadets.
Elliott was commissioned an officer and completed flight school where he was qualified on the Apache helicopter. He served as an attach platoon leader at Fort Hood, Texas, and was sent again to Korea. He achieved the rank of captain in 2004.
In 2008, Elliott joined a transition team for the 1st Infantry Division and was deployed to Iraq where he is doing counter-insurgency operations. Elliott and his wife, Jennifer, have a daughter, Mia, and a son, Cruz.
