Explorers visit West Paris library
WEST PARIS – The Explorers’ group meets at the Agnes Gray School in the early morning and late afternoon. It is an opportunity for children to learn and play with Leader Rebecca Allen-Brown before school, and Leader Ellen Gibson after school.
During four Wednesdays in October the West Paris Library welcomed Gibson and the children. They visited the library as part of an ongoing interest in exploring their community. The children borrowed books and special programs were arranged for them. Librarian Patty Makley read an original story at their first visit and the children made their own “magic berry basket.”
The second week the children wanted to learn about the planned addition. Each child was given the architect’s floor plan for the new building and everyone imagined things like where the children’s area would be. South Paris author Patricia Gott, visited the library and read her children’s book, “Horse Tails by Shasta.” She also shared photos of her horses.
Robyn Green, a West Paris gem and mineral enthusiast, was at the library on Oct. 29, with specimens from her collection of gemstones. She talked about the stones and also about the opportunities for the children to explore local mines and find their own treasures.
Gibson says the Explorers liked the library and will return at least once a month to borrow books.
