AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA has announced the next session of swim lessons is set to begin the week of Jan. 5.

The YMCA offers the following swim lesson classes:

Parent and Tot, age 6 to 18 months: a 30-minute class designed to introduce infants to the water.

A parent is required to participate with the child.

Water Babies, 18 to 24 months: a 15-minute class catering to the timid new swimmer.

It has a 1:1 child/instructor ratio. Water Baby classes are limited to three participants.

Tiny Tots, age 2 to 5: the program is geared toward teaching them to swim and feel safe in and around the water.

All these classes run for 30 minutes.

Youth Progressive Lessons, for children ages 6 and up: The national YMCA program is designed to improve children’s swimming skills, teach new skills, work on endurance and stroke techniques, as well as survival skills.

Children will be placed in a class based on their swim abilities. Classes are 45 minutes in length.

Each program runs in eight-week sessions throughout the year.

Class size is limited. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants must be YMCA members.

A yearly (social) membership for those ages 5 and under is $25; a youth membership is $50 for kids ages 6 + up. All the above classes have a $55 program fee.

Adult swim lessons are offered Wednesdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. for beginners, and Wednesdays from 6:45 to 7:30 for advanced.

Non-members must pay a $25 adult social membership fee (good for a year).

All participants must pay the $55 program fee for the eight-week session.
