AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St., will open its doors to the public during the annual holiday open house on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5, 6, and 7. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. all three days and also 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
The federal style mansion, which was built between 1914 and 1917 and was the former home of Horatio and Ella Foss, will be decorated in holiday splendor. Refreshments will be served in the dining room and musical entertainment will permeate the house from the downstairs foyer.
Decorators have adorned the various rooms. “A Happy Holiday” by Tonie Ramsey will fill the main meeting room, as well as “Take Along Holiday Baskets” for holiday gift-giving.
Melanie Ness will transform the downstairs foyer and grand staircase with a “Winter Wonderland”; Larry Duprey will take people through “Poinsettia Way” in the library; and “The Quiet Hour” will be presented in the solarium by Kirsten Larsson-Turley.
“A Country Christmas” will appear in the dining room by Flo Annear and Shelly West; the upper hallway and bedroom will be decorated for a “Victorian Morning” by Marilyn Wilkinson and Cathy Westleigh; and the other bedroom will become a “Snowbaby Wonderland,” decorated members of the After Dark Club.
Musical entertainment will include Phil House on the piano, Friday Dec. 5., 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Mitch Thomas in song and piano selections, Saturday Dec. 6, noon to 1 p.m. Martha Feeley will play piano selections and the ELHS Chorus Group will sing Christmas carols during the Saturday evening hours; and harpists, Melanie Lee and Betsy Kopyz, will play from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.
