PARIS – Lawrence “Kenny” Kennerson has been named Veteran of the Month at the Maine Veterans Home, Paris.
Kennerson was born April 12, 1912, in South Paris. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in June 1945 and was stationed at Fort Devens, Mass. He served stateside during World War II and was discharged in February 1946. He received a Victory Medal for his service.
Kennerson married his wife, Marie, in 1940, and they settled in Fryeburg. They raised two children and Kennerson worked as a barber. After the war, he returned to Fryeburg and continued his barbering trade for another 40 years.
Kennerson and his wife traveled around the United States for two years before his wife died in 1970. He also traveled to Alaska with his daughter. Favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed with his wife and son. Kennerson has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He has been at the Maine Veterans Home since 2006 and lives on the residential care unit. He enjoys eating out and taking trips with staff and his family.
