AVON – The Opportunity Center of North Franklin County Inc. will provide free energy auditor certification training for three area residents interested in becoming certified home energy auditors.

Professional auditors work with homeowners and businesses to identify areas where energy savings can be realized through changes to processes, equipment or building upgrades, such as insulation.

The two-week training is being offered through MaineHousing starting Dec. 1 at Kennebec Valley Community College.

Energy auditor training costs $550. The center will provide tuition for up to three applicants residing in the western Maine region.

After completing the training, successful applicants will be required to conduct two free home energy audits in the Northern Franklin County area in 2009.
