FARMINGTON – There were 133 children from pre-school to sixth grade participating in the 38th annual Halloween window-painting contest sponsored by the Farmington Business and Professional Association and the Farmington Rotary Club.

The major force in accomplishing the special event for children has evolved with active roles by older students. The Jobs for Maine Graduates class at Foster Vocational Center prepares the powdered paint packets. Along with members of the Interact Club of Mt. Blue High School and University of Maine at Farmington Rotaract Club members, they handle the task of registration.

Interact and Rotaract are Rotary-sponsored service clubs for young people ages 14 to 18 and 18 to 30 respectively. The programs give them an opportunity to participate in service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.

The paintings were judged on originality, technique, neatness of painting and area and the Halloween or autumn theme.

Contestants were grouped into five classifications: preschool, kindergarten, grades one and two, grades three and four and grades five and six. Prizes are awarded to each group by the Farmington Rotary Club: first, $10; second, $8; third, $6; fourth, $4; and fifth, $2.

Preschool: Katelyn Daggett, Joshua Smith, Iliana Marquez, Natalie Ranger, Nick Chancey.
