100 years ago, 1918

One of the most interesting features of the semi-annual meeting of the Maine State Board of Trade, held in Lewiston on Thursday, was the report of Secretary Edward M. Blanding. Mr. Blanding, former newspaper man and long prominent in Bangor’s civic activities, is always heard with pleasure. He mentions various Board of Trade members, past and present, touches upon Maine’s commercial and agricultural outlook and discusses the State’s several chambers of commerce and boards of trade.

50 years ago, 1968

The Elm Street Universalist Church in Auburn has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 111 for a long time, one of the longest in the Twin Cities, and last night, at an Open House, the presentation of the troops 41st charter was made. Those taking part were, left to right. Roger Brackett, assistant scoutmaster; Robinson Whitney, committee chairman; Ronald Emery, district commissioner; Wallace Ham, institutional representative; Edward White, scoutmaster; and Ronald Grant, assistant scoutmaster.

25 years ago, 1993

Piles of old tires outside the new headquarters for Creative Building Materials Inc. give no clue of the retread that has taken place inside the building for the growing company. Known as CBM, the 11-year-old business has expanded its Lewiston operation to Auburn and the old CP Tek building at 1793 Hotel Road to take advantage of the 5,000 square feet of office space and 25,000 square feet of warehouse space. Company founder and president Donald Buteau said business for the 11-year-old manufacturer and distributor of aluminum door canopies and vinyl siding has taken off since he sold 25 percent of the business last year to an Ohio man.
