Book sale ending
PARIS – The Paris Public Library’s annual used book sale will end with a bag sale on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the former location of the Paris Farmers’ Union store in South Paris. The sale, at the corner of Main Street and Skillings Avenue, will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A bag full of books of any type will cost $1. The first day of this year’s sale raised more than $1,800 to purchase new books for the library’s children’s collection.
Donations for the sale are welcome and may be dropped off at the library or picked up by arrangement. The library collects books for its annual sale year-round.

Family reunion
PARIS – The McAlister-McAllister reunion will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Paris Hill Baptist Church. People should bring a picnic lunch to eat inside or outside on the Common. The club will serve beverage and dessert.
A 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, door prizes and children’s activities will be available. Bring memorabilia and vital records to update the database. The club would also like contributions for the Chinese auction.
AARP picnic
PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will host a picnic on Monday, Aug. 11, at the Oxford County University of Maine Co-operative Extension Education Center in South Paris.
The noon picnic will be $5 a person and includes sandwich or sandwiches, chips and dessert. Those attending should bring their own drinks. There will be tables and seating, rain or shine. Sandwich choices are chicken salad, seafood salad, egg salad or ham salad.
Reservations are required by calling Thelma at 743-6124 by noon on Friday, Aug. 8. Leave a message with name, number and kind of sandwiches.
Becky Armstrong will lead tours of the gardens and answer questions.
Hymn sing
WATERFORD – The final hymn sing of the summer will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Waterford Congregational Church, Plummer Hill. Ice cream sundaes will be served after. Everyone is welcome.
Bridge results
NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 1 in the Fare Share Building, Main Street. A three-table Howell movement was played. Finishing first in Flight A were Eilene Potvin and Della Starbird; second, Adele Bendes and Les Buzzell; first in Flight B, Bev Dolan and Bev Pelletier; second, Marilyn and Richard Canton.
